There was not much enthusiasm among the team members of the Washington Redskins as they entered the New Meadowlands Stadium at East Rutherford, New Jersey. They were lacking backup support for starters and the only player of note that could be seen was quarterback Donovan Mcnabb. Were they anticipating the worst and in that way bringing it about? Or was it just that they had learned to expect defeat after a rash of consecutive losses. Whatever the case, there was no spirit that could be detected and the snow itself seemed to have been an additional deterrent to their enthusiasm. One person who should have been with them was absent and this was their defense lineman. He had not reported for practice and was therefore eliminated from the game. What was easily detected was the absence of support for the starters and the fact that defense lineman had been dropped from the players because he did not come for practice the Friday before.

The game was a 31-7 route of the Redskins, This was the fifth time the team lost to the New York Giants  consecutively. For the season, that was their eighth consecutive game lost out of 9. It did seem as though they had simply lost their fighting spirit. Their quarterback Donovan Mcnabb was tackled and sacked repeatedly, and by rookies at that. The Redskins were visibly intimidated by the sight of the New York Giants‚Äô Brandon Jacob‚Äôs 265 pounds accelerating through the football ground. The Redskins just stayed clear of him, the only resistance they offered was stretching out their arms in protest with each touchdown that the New York Giants scored.

The new York Giants started out by scoring two touchdowns without effort. This was followed by some fumbling with the ball and an eventual third touchdown. And that was how most of the game went. The redskins failed to move as a concerted whole. They were disorganized and missing their cues. If they had seemed to be intimidated when they came in, they were looking bullied helpless towards the latter part until all the way to the end of the game.

It was not an entertaining spectacle to watch and fans were visibly getting restless. Some have left the stadium midway in the game. The New York Giants seemed as if they were practicing instead of playing a game against professionals. The defense of the Redskins was easily penetrated by the New York Giants and just as easily evaded. Their offense, as was noted, was periodically thwarted by rookies among the New York Giants.

At the end of the game, the New York Giants  emerged on par with the Eagles. In losing the game, the Redskins lost all the chances for recover that they had been boasting of previously. Whether they play or not, whether they win or not in their next games, the Redskins could never better their status for the football season.

The game last Sunday was one of the worst ones for the season as far as the spectators were concerned. Although everyone was more or less expecting what happened to happen, people were expecting to see some effort from the under dog team. But it seemed that the Redskins had grown tired of playing for defeat all the time.
