A mascot may or may not have a representation to every football team.But with today's one of the famous and controversial mascot in the history of football, there is “ROWDY” the cowboy, representing one of the famous f ootball teams, the Dallas Cowboys .Rowdy is played by Ted Ovletrea.
But before Rowdy the cowboy, the Dallas Cowboys in their NFL jackets have an official mascot known as Crazy Ray Jones for years and years.From 1962 until his death in 2007, Crazy Ray was representing the team.After his timely death, the Dallas Cowboys organization held a memorial service in honor of him.
Rowdy became the recent official mascot of the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys since 1996.His tenure overlapped with Crazy Ray's Pro Football Hall of Famer .Rowdy became active in many of Dallas Cowboys' activities, such as, in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, The Salvation Army, The Rise School of Dallas, Special Olympics, retirement centers, hospitals, schools, birthday parties, grand openings, Minor League Baseball games around the country, conventions, sports jackets parades, grocery store promotions, NBA games, weddings and sometimes takes a visit to the crowd during halftime .
Driving in on his four wheeler creating the game day enthusiastic at Texas Stadium, tossing Dallas Cowboys NFL jackets into the stands, using signs like Let's Go Cowboys, and mocking the opponents is his job, but not limited to, as the Ambassador of the Dallas Cowboys.Every home game and selected away games is participated by Rowdy.
Rowdy is proud to represent the Dallas Cowboys each year in selected cities for the annual Mascot convention.In this convention, the National Football League Mascots compare and share ideas to help continue mascot antics and ways to market mascot awareness.ESPN did a documentary of the mascots that were featured on ESPN's Under The Helmet from last year's convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
However, just recently, Ted Ovletrea who played the character, was notified that the team was letting him go .The officials of the Cowboys need to evaluate the character of Rowdy on game days, and according to the Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels, he is still part of the team.Thus, Rowdy was not seen on game days during the 2009 to 2010 season.
